A problem with the spring tension could cause the door to open or close unevenly, improperly, or at the wrong speed, and adjusting the springs will likely solve the problem. Steps Preparing for Your Adjustment 1 Recognize side-mounted extension springs. There are two kinds of springs your garage door might use: Before you can adjust the spring on your garage door, you must determine what kind of springs your door has. Side-mounted springs are easier to adjust, while torsion springs are more dangerous to meddle with, so you would be better off calling a professional if you have these. There will be two springs:

Tip number 1 seems like it would be easy to forget. I know someone who had their car broken into a while back and the only thing that was stolen was the garage door opener. It makes sense as that can give the criminal easy access inside your home. However, where exactly would you suggest putting the remote? I think that many people think that the garage door itself will keep them secure. It will help, and you give some great tips on preventing people from infiltrating it.
Assuming you are using Wheezy, on the first boot rasp-config will automatically run.
Now either break apart a spare garage door remote, or just wire the relay directly to your garage door. Consult your garage manual how to do this. You can see my spare garage remote has an obvious button that I soldered two wires to, and jammed into my relay. Next, connect all the proper wires from your Raspberry Pi to the relay. This relay off Amazon was the proper fit for me: You can use a webcam if you’re on BeagleBone Black or some other Linux computer.
You can mount on either your Raspberry Pi case, or the shelf your device is sitting on. You alternatively CAN make a fancy 3D printed larger case to house all of this inside, but I’m cheap.

Even still, there are sometimes issues that continue to surprise us, like the tiny insect nest growing on the photo eye sensor or the tennis ball that somehow managed to knock the door entirely off its track. While there are times you may be able to fix the problem yourself, there are many reasons it may be best to leave the garage door repair up to the professionals.
The Transmitter Batteries Are Dead This may sound obvious, but your garage door transmitters need power to work. First, check to see if the transmitter on the wall inside your garage still opens your garage door when pressed. If it does, then the transmitter in your car likely just needs a simple battery replacement.

Issues I had to deal with: The old mounts will not bolt up to the V8. I had to use the V8 mounts from the original vehicle. The fuel line from the tank to the fuel pump is on the wrong side of the V8 engine. The fuel return line is okay. I ran some steel line under the radiator over to the other side to the pump. There is plenty of room. I had to buy the V8 hoses.
I just used the old radiator. I removed the mount brackets from my old power steering pump and used the V8 brackets. I had to remove the belt pulley which was a pain to get off. Once that was done it was an easy bolt on.

Note that radios can also be configured using XCTU. You can safely skip these steps. Log in to Device Cloud. Select Devices under the Device Management tab.
Do not attempt to use any sort of tool as a substitute for the winding bars or steel rods.
Install and Optimize Rasbian for Our Purposes This first step is to install an operating system to your rpi. I’m a bit of a debian fanboy, and had an extra 2GB sdcard, so I went with a shrunk version of Wheezy. The image I used can be found here: For full instructions on installing an OS to your PI and other images, visit http: On Ubuntu, I used gparted to format to fat32, and dd to write the img.
After you install the OS, plug in a usb keyboard and hook up the raspberry pi to a monitor. Assuming you are using Wheezy, on the first boot rasp-config will automatically run. You should use this tool to stretch the parition and enable ssh under the advanced menu on newer versions I believe. If you have a large SD, you can skip this. To do this type these commands: This will allow us to control the pi remotely via ssh.
Here is a great guide for Wheezy:
Install is very straight forward and it supports many different types of garage door openers. This opener uses Wifi. Where it lacks is in its connectivity. It does have its own native app, similar to other openers, but it would be nice if you could just integrate it into your SmartThings or Wink hub so you could just use 1 app.
